What is Pop Music?

For my Ethnomusicology project, the genre of music I picked to research was Pop. Pop music has a heavy influence on people of all ages. The term Pop is short for popular, and most new pop songs hit the charts within the first week of their debut. Pop music is usually lively. As of 2010, some artists that have taken over the pop charts are Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, The Jonas Brothers, Lil Wayne and many others. Today's pop has many similarities. Music from the 1920's had more of a jazz feel, but it was still very influence like pop is today. Pop is a music genre for everyone, it influence's many, and almost anyone with talent can become a pop star. Hope you enjoy and learn a lot from this Wikispace.

Pop music relating to the U.S census
These songs have a lot to do with the social institutions, both songs touch the concept of economical, and domestic. With the U.S census becoming more important and being promoted by popular artists, hit pop star Demi Lovato created a public service announcement to get people to go out and take the census. The U.S census shows that people of white descent were wealthier then African Americans, and white people were usually the type of people that listened to pop back in the 1990's now pop music is a genre that everyone can enjoy and appreciate.
